3 Ways to Wear Joggers
Joggers are not just to lounge around anymore.
Joggers are such a versatile piece of clothing. We wear them for fashion, to lounge around in, to stay warm in, to be active in, just because they're so comfortable, and so much more.
Joggers are a casual-style pair of pants with a drawstring waist that have become a go-to with the popularity of athleisure. They can resemble sweatpants in material and overall fit but are generally distinguishable by their more tailored appearance and elasticized ankle cuffs.
Depending on whether you’re going for a more casual outfit or planning a look for date night, you can opt for a jogger with a more fitted, rather than baggy, look or visa-versa.
In essence, we wear them to be active in them or to do as little as possible in them. This versatile piece of clothing can be dressed up and worn out or just thrown on and worn around the house. You can do it all in a good pair of joggers and you get it do it in complete comfort.
Where did joggers come from anyway?
Sweatpants first came onto the scene in the 1920's when Émile Camuset, the founder of Le Coq Sportif and by the 1930's they were showing up at the Olympics where athletes began wearing them regularly. Gaining popularity and acceptance on college campuses as comfortable clothing to wear in and out of class, it won't until 2019 when the jogger began to become a more common option for pants anyone would wear basically anywhere.
Are they sweatpants or not?
Joggers are a slimmer-cut, more lightweight version of sweatpants, and they usually have a cinched ankle or cuff hem. Joggers are usually made with thinner fabrics than sweatpants so they can be worn easily and comfortably throughout the year. Just like sweatpants, they're considered today as athleisure with a bit more fashion behind them.
How many ways can you style or wear joggers?
Here are 3 different options
For a casual look
The possibilities are endless and the more you add your own take on these comfy pants, the more creative you get, the more options you can have.
Joggers are a classic part of a street style–inspired ensemble. One easy way to wear them is with streetwear fashion staples like a casual T-shirt or a short top, like the Swimmee, along with a pair of sneakers. As with the joggers themselves, you will have a more put-together outfit if you choose structured items, like a slim-fit top. And since the joggers' distinguishing elastic ankle cuffs will likely draw attention to your shoes, the sneakers you choose should be clean, but have fun with the shoes you choose.
For a dressier look
It can be pretty hard to substitute dressier pants with joggers because joggers have an obvious sporty appearance, but that also doesn’t rule them out for a more unconventional approach to a night out. Try pairing them with an unstructured blazer and an untucked or partially tucked dress shirt or more form-fitting top. When choosing what shoes to pair them with, try a more formal pair of sneakers or even a pair of high heeled shoes.
